"I looked for paintings with character, heart, originality, technique, and thought. All of the chosen work has one or more of those qualities, and I feel the award winners have multiples... Competitions are difficult, exhilarating, discouraging, surprising, disappointing, joyful, tearful, educational, encouraging, awe-inspiring and wonderful all rolled up into one event. Anytime an artist takes the chance and puts themselves out there in that never-neverland of the jury process, he or she risks any one or all of those emotions. My hat is off to all who took that leap and I believe each will grow because of their effort and willingness to reach."
